A Learjet crashed Friday in Northeast Philadelphia, near Cottoman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard
A Learjet 55 crashed this Friday in northeast Philadelphia, less than 5 kilometers from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, a terminal specialized in business flights and charter services.
According to local authorities, the impact caused a fire in the area and led to the closure of several roads near the crash site.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that two people were on board the aircraft. Initial reports indicate that the crash occurred near Cottoman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, close to a shopping mall.
According to the Flightaware website, the plane had the Mexican registration number XA-UCI.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated that all state resources have been mobilized to address the emergency. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management classified the event as a “major incident” and advised the public to avoid the affected area while rescue teams continue their work.
Flight data indicates that the aircraft took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport at 6:06 p.m. However, just 30 seconds later, it disappeared from radars after reaching an altitude of 1,600 feet (487 meters). Minutes later, witnesses reported a column of smoke near Roosevelt Mall, where an emergency operation was deployed.
This air accident comes just days after a terrible mid-air collision in Washington, D.C., claimed the lives of 67 people.
