– Cosmo Pharmaceuticals has announced it will begin the first-ever human usability study of a new software application that integrates Medtronic’s GI Genius AI module with Apple Vision Pro. 

– The study, set to launch in July 2025 at Rush University Medical Center, will evaluate the use of spatial computing to deliver real-time, AI-powered insights to physicians during live colonoscopy procedures.

First-of-its-Kind Clinical Study on the Use of GI Genius

This initiative aims to create a more intuitive and powerful workflow for gastroenterologists. The software application, designed by Cosmo, will allow physicians wearing the Apple Vision Pro headset to see critical data and AI-generated highlights from the GI Genius module overlaid within their real-world view. This seamless integration means vital information can be accessed heads-up, without the need to look away from the patient or the primary endoscopy screen.

The GI Genius module, distributed exclusively by Medtronic, is already a powerful tool in the fight against colorectal cancer. It uses artificial intelligence to help physicians identify potentially cancerous polyps, increasing the adenoma detection rate (ADR) by as much as 14.4%. By connecting this proven AI with the immersive, high-resolution display of Apple Vision Pro, Cosmo hopes to unlock a new level of clinical efficiency and focus.

The landmark usability study will be conducted on patients undergoing routine colonoscopies at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. It will be led by Dr. Irving Waxman, a renowned figure in the field who serves as the James R. Lowenstine Professor and Chief of the Division of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition at Rush.
