Therapixel’s AI-Based Breast Cancer Detection Technology Now Integrated with RamSoft

For a long time, the promise that artificial intelligence offered to radiology has been especially exciting. In this video, Thomas Bertinotti, Chief Product Officer and VP of Business Operations USA at Therapixel, describes how that company’s AI-based product helps radiologists improve breast cancer detection. MammoScreen is now integrated into the cloud based PACS platform from RamSoft, described here by Rob Sandler, RamSoft’s Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Global Partnerships.

There are several benefits for both the radiologist and patients with the combined solution. In a busy radiology practice, a radiologist might read 100 to 200 cases a day.  Embedded into RamSoft’s PowerServer and OmegaAI PACS platforms, MammoScreen by Therapixel is a concurrent reading tool designed to assist radiologists in reviewing mammograms

MammoScreen uses AI to analyze 2D and 3D images of a mammogram notably to detect and characterize potentially suspicious lesions, reducing cognitive overload and fatigue for radiologists. Bertinotti says that Therapixel developed the green/yellow/red coding system used to assign risk. The tool can also compare the current mammogram to older ones (“priors”), because a spot that is new or has grown can suggests higher risk of malignancy.

Integrated tightly with RamSoft’s cloud-based PowerServer and OmegaAI PACS platforms, Therapixel’s AI can not only highlight potentially suspicious lesions, but can help generate a preliminary report, notably assessing lesion type and position to further streamline the radiologist workflow. Overall, the impact to the patient is potentially lower rates of false positives, reducing the number of repeat images, and such exposure to radiation.

Bertinotti says that MammoScreen focuses on early detection, which vastly improves survival rates. They are working on algorithms that can rate parts of the image that are sometimes difficult to catch with the human eye. By providing a high standard for accuracy, Therapixel can improve care among different populations and geographic regions. The process combines AI with human expertise. Although Bertinotti says that integrated with RamSoft the tool could be particularly valuable for mid-size practices, Sandler also says that they have seen Therapixel adopted by many major radiological centers in the U.S.

Therapixel’s MammoScreen application is the latest AI-based partner that RamSoft has integrated into its PACS platform. “Customers want AI in their PACS, which is the operating environment for the radiologist”, says Sandler. Other AI-based applications recently integrated applications and partnerships for RamSoft include Radpair (AI-based reporting), Maverick (AI-based autonomous medical coding), Alpha Nodus (AI-Driven Prior Authorization, Cost Estimates, & Scheduling), NewVue (AI based workflow and orchestration), and CARPL (AI radiological marketplace).
