CIO Podcast – Episode 93: California Laws and Regulations with David T. Ford

For the 93rd episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we are joined by David T. Ford, VP of Health Information Technology at California Medical Association (CMA) to talk about some of California’s laws and regulations for health IT! We kick this episode off by discussing what is happening at the state level in California to regulate AI. Then, we talk about what other states can learn from California’s experience in this regulation. Looking at the bigger picture, we theorize what these state regulations could imply for the federal level. Next, we take a look at the CalHHS Data Exchange Framework to learn more about what it is and what it accomplishes. Two years ago California passed a law, AB 352, that requires EHRs to segment certain types of data. Now that other states are following suit, Ford gives us an inside look on the law, its impact, and what vendors and providers should expect. Next, we discuss the Health IT Summit that CMA hosts. Lastly, we conclude this episode with Ford passing along the best piece of advice he’s been given in his career.

Here’s a look at the questions and topics we discuss in this episode:
