What You Should Know:
– Zelis, a provider of healthcare technology solutions announced its acquisition of the assets of Medxoom, a mobile-first member experience platform, from Allied Benefit Systems, LLC, the largest independent third-party administrator (TPA) in the United States. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
– Zelis plans to enhance this vendor-agnostic platform and reintroduce it as a solution for health plans and TPAs, aiming to offer a differentiated platform that empowers members to more easily find and access quality care while navigating their benefits.
Empowering Members with a Mobile-First, Transparent Care Journey
The acquisition comes at a time when health plans are facing increasing pressure to comply with price transparency regulations and meet the dynamic needs of healthcare consumers. Zelis intends to combine its extensive data ecosystem—which includes provider demographic, cost, and quality data, alongside provider search capabilities—with Medxoom’s platform to provide greater transparency into the total cost of care.
“Health plans face greater pressure to comply with price transparency regulations, making it increasingly important to provide members with more precise pricing information and mobile-first solutions that empower them on their care journey,” said Heather Cox, President, Insights & Empowerment at Zelis. “With the acquisition of Medxoom, we look forward to introducing a differentiated mobile-first solution that offers health plans and TPAs a way to leverage their data and makes price transparency real and actionable”.
Allied Benefit Systems to Retain Dedicated Version for Allied Digital
While Zelis acquires the Medxoom platform assets for broader market application, Allied Benefit Systems will retain its own dedicated version of the software. This will continue to power Allied’s proprietary Allied Digital offering, reflecting the TPA’s ongoing strategic investment in healthcare management technology. Zelis serves more than 750 payers, including the top five national health plans, regional health plans, and TPAs, alongside millions of healthcare providers and consumers.
