“Mission: Impossible 8” Action Is ‘Heart-Stopping’

Filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie has teased that the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is so intense that it might not be for the faint-hearted.

The film marks the eighth overall ‘Mission’ movie and quite possibly the final one for the franchise. McQuarrie confirms to Empire (via Games Radar) that they held an early screening for the film and one audience member had a reaction:

“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack’. And I thought ‘I guess we did something right’.”

McQuarrie didn’t reveal what action sequence impacted that audience member, though multiple sequences in the trailer suggest it could be either the submarine or mid-air biplane dogfight. Alternatively, it could be a sequence not yet revealed.

The project marks the end of McQuarrie’s decade-long stint in the franchise, which began with 2015’s fifth film, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. Tom Cruise, meanwhile, has been making films since 1996’s first one.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Holt McCallany, Angela Bassett, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Stephen Oyoung, Mariela Garriga, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Frederick Schmidt.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” opens in cinemas May 23rd.
