A massively multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG) title, based on Sony PlayStation and Guerrilla Games’ celebrated “Horizon: Zero Dawn” franchise, has reportedly been cancelled.
South Korean news site MTN News (via VGC) indicates that publisher NCSoft has scrapped projects that were in the works – codenamed H, J and Pantera – at three separate studios.
Project H, internally referred to as “Skyline,” is believed to be the working codename for the MMORPG based on Sony’s “Horizon” franchise. Last Fall’s reported layoffs at the company may have impacted the project.
In the wake of the project’s cancellation, developers previously associated with it are reportedly leaving NCSoft or moving to different projects across the company.
NCSoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment signed a strategic global business partnership in 2023 to “expand beyond console and broaden PlayStation’s reach to a wider audience,” said former SIE boss Jim Ryan.
Ryan has since left his position, and several multiplayer and live-service titles across the studio that were in development were recently shut down. These include live-service titles based on major Sony franchises like “The Last of Us,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” and “God of War”.
The title is one of two multiplayer “Horizon” titles in development. The other is being made in-house at Sony and Guerrilla. That one will be set in the same universe but feature a “new cast of characters and a unique stylised look”.
