How can I convince my family to thaw and store food properly? [closed]
How can I deal with or avoid my family sneering at me when I am trying to explain food safety rules? Whenever I try to explain (the don't even allow me to say a word, point to a picture or a leaflet. I don't know if it counts as trying by I intend I "try" to show them bacterial growth curves by temperature, pictures and leaflets of organisations for food safety, talk about people getting hospitalized or getting to visit the toilet, getting bloated, talk about the symptoms of foodborne ailments, say that it is easy and isn't a lot of effort to refrigerate or plan a couple of days earlier, say that foodborne ailments can be serious, that sometimes people make mistakes just because 1 did something for decades doesn't mean it was ok, it may be just luck that noone got a foodborne ailment in all those years or even simply false people may simply not bother with symptoms of foodborne ailments) food safety rules I am met with contempt, ridicule and sneer. They make fun of me even showing me the cooking pans on top of the stove. I am worried about Thawing (we need to thaw safely on the fridge not on the counter) and Storing practices (we don't let food on the stove turned of for a couple/several hours we need to refrigerate withing one hour of cooking). I understand that it is not easy for people to change deeply ingrained beliefs and practices (it is okay to leave food on top of the stove for several hours it can't possibly spoil since we cook just now, the food didn't thaw it is still rock hard, ignoring that pathogens just need the surface to proliferate not the centre) My Grandmother grew up in a small insular village having only completed elementary school (6 years) and is almost 90 years old. My Father completed vocational school and technical education (ship mechanic) My Mother is the only one that completed Business Administration and Law School but she is lackaidasical and carefree. How can I deal with or avoid my family sneering at me when I am trying to explain food safety rules? I am think that maybe I am the one at fault. Maybe I am obsessing with foodborne ailments (maybe my worries can be justified by the fact that I have cancer). I would like to convince them that food safety rules make sense. I don't understand what is this about a specific interpersonal skill I want to use. How can we convince grandmother to use the dishwasher? the above question is similar and simply wants to Convince someone of something. How can we convince grandmother to use the dishwasher?
