Canucks’ Tyler Myers to have hearing for cross-check on Oilers’ Evan Bouchard

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers will have a hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety. 

Myers was assessed a match penalty after hitting Edmonton Oilers defenceman Bouchard in the face with his stick. Per NHL rule No. 21, a match penalty carries an automatic hearing with the league.

Frustrations boiled over at the end of Saturday’s game between the Oilers and Canucks as a melee ensued after forward Conor Garland poked the puck off Connor McDavid’s stick and both players fell to the ice. The pair wrestled for a moment, then got up before Garland once again took down the marquee centre and tried to prevent him from getting back to his feet.

Away from the play, Myers was approached by Bouchard and the Canucks defenceman took exception as he caught him up high with a cross-check.

McDavid caught Garland with a cross-check to the head which led to the brawl. The Oilers captain was ejected from the game and faces discipline from the NHL.
