Abbott to Integrate FreeStyle Libre Glucose Data with Epic EHR

– Abbott, a provider of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) biowearable technology, has announced a landmark agreement with Epic Systems, a major provider of electronic health records (EHR). 

– The first-of-its-kind collaboration for Abbott will integrate patient glucose data from its leading FreeStyle Libre CGM systems directly into Epic’s EHR platform across the United States.

FreeStyle Libre Integration with Epic Aura

The integration leverages Epic’s Aura software, a platform designed to connect health systems with diagnostics labs and medical device manufacturers. Through this new capability, glucose data from a patient’s LibreView account can be automatically linked to their electronic chart within Epic.

This seamless connection aims to significantly enhance workflow efficiency for healthcare providers. Clinicians will gain effortless access to their patients’ vital glucose data directly within the Epic system – viewing trends and readings before, during, and after patient consultations. By embedding this crucial information into their existing workflows, providers can spend less time hunting for data and more time focusing on informed care management and decision-making.

Epic EHR Integration Impact

The potential impact is substantial, as more than 575,000 U.S. healthcare providers utilize Epic’s systems, serving approximately 280 million patients. These providers will now have streamlined access to critical glucose data integrated directly into their patients’ charts.

For patients using FreeStyle Libre systems, this integration facilitates easier collaboration with their healthcare teams.
