20 New Songs Out Today
Listen to new songs by Tina Turner, Anamanaguchi (Nirvana cover), Kestrels, Surprise Chef, Nadia Reid, Killswitch Engage, Andy Bell (Ride), and more.
So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
TINA TURNER – “HOT FOR YOU BABY”
The late Tina Turner’s career-altering solo album Private Dancer is getting a 40th anniversary box set with lots of bonus content on March 21 via Capitol, and today we get to hear a previously unreleased song from the album’s sessions, a revved-up ’80s rocker called “Hot For You Baby.”

BAG PEOPLE – “DEAD MEAT”
Bag People formed in Chicago in the 1980s before moving to NYC and getting immersed in the city’s post-punk/no wave scene, and now Drag City has unearthed 12 of their recordings for a self-titled release on March 28. The first song released is “Dead Meat,” a jagged track that fits right in with the more popular New York art punks of the era and sounds great in 2025 too.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE – “I BELIEVE”
Metalcore veterans Killswitch Engage have shared “I Believe,” the melodic, anthemic second single from their upcoming ninth album This Consequence. If you like what you hear, pick up our exclusive “engulfing moss” vinyl variant of the LP.

KESTRELS – “FREE FOREVER”
Halifax, NS shoegaze vets Kestrels will release new album Better Wonder on Valentine’s Day and they’ve just shared a new single. “‘Free Forever’ is about living with ambiguity in relationships, says the band’s Chad Peck. “The verses deal with the doubt and hang ups and unknown histories that we have to get comfortable with, both within ourselves and in others. The choruses are the flipside: finding the comfort in embracing the unknown, recognizing control is an illusion, and saying what you want. Maybe there is time to make things right. I also stole a lyric from Matthew Sweet (‘beautiful and true’) who put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen at a small bar in Halifax a few years ago. He’s the best. John Agnello really loved this song — the vibe in the studio was immense that day.”

ROBERT ASCROFT & KID CONGO POWERS – “DEVIL OPENS THE DOOR”
Photographer and filmmaker Robert Ascroft also dabbles in music and will release new album Echo Still Remains on Valentine’s Day via Hand Drawn Dracula. The album features contribution by Christopher Owens (Girls), Britta Phillips (Luna, Dean & Britta), Tess Parks, Ruth Radelet (Chromatics), Guy Blakeslee (The Entrance Band), and Kid Congo Powers on “Devil Opens the Door.” Says Kid Congo, “‘Devil Opens The Door’ is a swampy, gritty groove courtesy of my friend Robert Ascroft’s wicked songwriting and guitar playing. For my vocal I let loose with Devilish screams that would make even the underworld blush, while Roger Brogan’s primal drumbeat keeps your hips moving underneath. In the video directed by Robert, I channel my inner televangelist, preaching fire and brimstone about the dangers lurking on your TV screen. It’s loud, raw, and just naughty enough—exactly how rock ’n’ roll is meant to be.”
—
ANDY BELL – “I’M IN LOVE” (GLOK REMIX)
Ride’s Andy Bell, under his electronic GLOK alias, has remixed the first single from his upcoming solo album, a cover of The Passions’ “I’m in Love With a German Film Star.” His new album is out February 28.

NADIA REID – “HOLD IT UP”
Nadia Reid’s first album in five years, Enter Now Brightness, arrives next month, and shared another preview, “Hold It Up.” “I remember I wrote this in lockdown in our house we’d bought at the end of 2019 in a suburb of Dunedin,” she says. “It was right on the hill, like a treehouse, on a very lovely, lush section… It’s the idea that I can be kind to anyone now, tenderness towards the whole world, of being in love with the world. it’s seeing humans, even people that I think I have nothing in common with, and thinking ‘You are somebody’s precious baby.'”
