Wayne Taylor explains WTR's split with Andretti

Wayne Taylor has clarified that while his racing team’s two-year partnership with former Andretti Global CEO Michael Andretti is no more – hence the omission of the Andretti surname from WTR’s entry in 2025 – Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing is still a part of Dan Towriss’ TWG Motorsports group.

About the two-year partnership with Andretti, the owner and namesake of WTR said: “We had a good time, to be honest. I enjoyed working with Michael and J-F and those guys. But they had other things going on as well. They had the Formula 1 program, the IndyCar program – so there was not a massive amount of integration.”

“Dan and his group made the decision to keep Wayne Taylor Racing separate, which obviously makes me happier. So I’m still partnering with him.”

Towriss oversees TWG Motorsports, which owns stakes in WTR, Andretti Global, NASCAR team Spire Motorsports and is partnering with General Motors to launch the Cadillac Formula 1 team in 2026. TWG Motorsports is part of the larger TWG Global investment arm run by Guggenheim Partners CEO Mark Walter.

Taylor reinforced that there was no animosity between himself and Andretti, the pair having worked together for the past two seasons across the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP and GTD classes.

“My first understanding of it was that was going to take some time off. And now I think the biggest focus in the group is the Cadillac LMDh program and Formula 1,” he said.

Taylor’s continued relationship with Towriss and TWG will also have Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing staying in the team’s current Brownsburg, Indiana headquarters instead of moving into Andretti Global’s new facility in Fishers, removing one pain point as WTR also rejoins Cadillac and GM after leaving Honda/Acura.

“It’s really fantastic,” said Taylor. “You know, partnering with them, and him allowing us to use our workshop. Really and truly, if you think about it – we operated the same way through Andretti for two years. We still own that shop, and we expanded a bit on that shop.

“It just made more sense to keep us where we are, because there’s always so many things happening. Going from Honda to Cadillac, and then also starting to plan to go into another shop, is just too much.”
