GTP cars were not very active during Thursday night’s Practice 2 from Daytona International Speedway, but of those that were, Nick Tandy led the way for Porsche Penske Motorsport in a dead heat with Kamui Kobayashi.
It was Tandy in the No.7 Porsche 963 that led the 90-minute night practice, with a best lap time of 1m36.921s. Kobayashi set an identical time in the chrome silver No.40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R at the checkered flag to get second place.
Brendon Hartley in the No.10 WTR Cadillac was third, then it was a pair of Porsches in fourth and fifth: Mathieu Jaminet in the sister No.6 Penske Porsche, then Rolex 24 debutant Pascal Wehrlein in the No.85 JDC-Miller MotorSports 963.
This session primarily served for the Bronze and Silver-rated drivers in the field to complete their required amount of night-time laps in order to be certified to run at night during the race itself on Saturday and Sunday.
It started and finished without any stoppages, though Conrad Laursen did have to pull off at the International Horseshoe with a mechanical issue for the No.50 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3.
Malthe Jakobsen led LMP2 in the No.04 CrowdStrike by APR ORECA 07.
Behind him was Matthieu Vaxiviere in the No.88 AF Corse machine, and Tom Dillmann in the No.43 Inter Europol Competition car.
The pacesetter in GTD PRO was the No.75 75 Express Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Jules Gounon who turned in a 1m47.809s to lead the class.
The two Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVOs were second and third – Jesse Krohn in the No.48, followed by Kelvin van der Linde in the No.1.
Marvin Kirchhöfer was the quick man in GTD driving the No.13 AWA Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R – with two Ferraris, the No.47 Cetilar Racing car of Antonio Fuoco and the No.70 Inception Racing car of David Fumanelli in second and third.
