Is ‘Flight Risk 2’ coming out in cinemas?

Flight Risk marks Mel Gibson’s return to the director’s chair for the first time since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, the action thriller follows a US Air Marshal who is escorting a fugitive to trial. As they travel across the Alaskan wilderness however, the pilot transporting them threatens to derail the entire operation.

The film’s script is by Jared Rosenberg, with Gibson, John Davis, John Fox and Bruce Davey serving as producers.

Flight Risk was released in cinemas worldwide on January 24, 2025.

Is Flight Risk 2 in the works?

At the time of writing (January 2025), a sequel has not been announced. Any chance of a follow-up will depend on Flight Risk’s box office success, so we’ll have a better idea of its prospects in the coming weeks.

While early reviews of the film have been mixed, it could find an audience in the slow January season.

If a sequel to Flight Risk does happen, it might not involve Gibson. The actor and director’s next project is his long planned sequel to The Passion Of The Christ, which was a huge box office hit when it released 20 years ago.

Gibson discussed the sequel, titled The Resurrection Of Christ, on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in January this year. The project is set to begin filming in 2026, and will apparently see Jim Caviezel return in the role of Jesus.

“There’s a lot required because it is an acid trip,” Gibson said on the podcast. “I’ve never read anything like it.”

He added: “I think in order to tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell.”
