STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Creators Confirm High Republic Connection

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew brought fans a fresh, fun, and self-contained adventure, yet it still managed to weave a subtle thread into the galaxy’s broader lore. Creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford recently confirmed that the series has ties to the High Republic era, specifically through the concept of the “Great Work” mentioned by the citizens of At Attin.Speaking to Collider after the finale, Watts explained: “The Real Good Guys. I didn’t want to fully step into that part of the universe and [have the] people working on it be like, ‘It is that!’ “But it’s supposed to feel connected. So if it’s not literally connected, it’s still an idea that existed in the galaxy at a certain time of like, ‘We can do better. We can do great things.’”For those not familiar with High Republic lore, the phrase “Great Work” is nod to Chancellor Lina Soh’s ambitious projects, such as the Starlight Beacon, designed to unite the galaxy during this flourishing era. Ford talked more on the connection, saying: ““Were coming from the same place if they’re not directly related. The idea of—because they’re secluded—what it originally meant could have evolved over time.”On At Attin, the Great Work takes on a more hidden meaning, which was ultimately revealed to be the production of Old Republic credits. The isolated planet, shrouded by the Barrier, has long been cut off from galactic events. Its citizens, unaware of the Galactic Civil War or even the destruction of Alderaan, have been living in a bubble of outdated ideals. This detachment creates a fascinating story dynamic with the people of At Attin unknowingly preserved an echo of Soh’s ethos, even if its original intent has shifted over generations.Unlike many of the other Star Wars shows, Skeleton Crew avoids heavy reliance on cameos or direct ties to other stories like The Mandalorian or Ahsoka. Instead, it carves its own story and path while peppering in interesting subtle Easter eggs. This subtle connection to the High Republic leaves room for some exciting possibilities to play with in the future. I would love to see At Attin’s unique history or its ties to the High Republic be explored further.
