What You Should Know:
– SimonMed Imaging, a provider of outpatient medical imaging services, and HeartLung Technologies, a pioneer in AI-powered diagnostics announced a strategic partnership to offer HeartLung’s automated bone mineral density screening for opportunistic detection of bone loss (osteopenia and osteoporosis) in CT scans.
– The collaboration aims to improve bone health and prevent fractures by making osteoporosis screening more accessible and affordable for patients.
Collaboration to Improve Bone Health and Prevent Fractures
HeartLung’s AutoBMD™ AI technology analyzes existing CT scan data to assess bone density, providing a DEXA-equivalent assessment without the need for additional radiation exposure or scanning time. The AI generates a patient-friendly report with Z-scores and T-scores, similar to those provided by DEXA scans, making it easier for patients and physicians to understand and address bone health.
This partnership is particularly significant given the prevalence of osteoporosis and the associated risks. Studies show that a significant percentage of individuals who suffer a hip fracture die within a year, and women are disproportionately affected by osteoporosis and fractures. Despite these risks, screening rates remain low, particularly among men.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Simon and his outstanding team at SimonMed Imaging Centers chose our innovative AI solution to help their patients detect osteoporosis early,” said Dr. Morteza Naghavi, MD, Founder and President of HeartLung Technologies. “Early detection enables early treatment which prevents adverse outcomes. This partnership is in line with our commitment to advancing preventive healthcare through AI-enabled technologies.”
