It’s no secret that as far as the smartphone industry is concerned, Apple and Samsung continue to be the top-selling brands within the segment. In fact, data from 2024 shows that the two rivals continue to dominate the top ten spots in terms of overall sales across a variety of different models.
According to a report published by analytics firm Canalys, the iPhone 15 was the most shipped smartphone in 2024, accounting for 3% of all shipments. Following this was the iPhone 16 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max in second and third place, respectively. Interestingly, the Galaxy A15 took fourth place, showing that Samsung’s big sales numbers are due to demand for its more affordable smartphones, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra in ninth place.
Another constant in 2023 and 2024 was the iPhone 13, a smartphone originally launched back in 2021. Given Apple’s pretty impressive and lengthy software support, it’s not too surprising to see the iPhone 13 remain a top-seller, since it represents an affordable entry point to iOS for buyers who don’t want to spend too much on an Apple device.
It’s important to note however that the data above is based on “sell-in” figures, which represent shipments from manufacturers to retailers and not actual sales to consumers.
