Rolex 24, Hour 13: DXDT hopes go up in flames as No. 24 loses ground in GTP fight

The 13th hour of the 2025 Rolex 24 began with Charlie Eastwood in the DXDT Corvette pulling off coming into the Tri-Oval, heading for the fire point with the rear of the car fully alight.

There was immediate intervention from the fire crew. Thankfully Eastwood was able to escape the car immediately and is OK.

“The first sign of trouble was a little lick of flame in the rearview mirror, then a big fire erupted out of Turn 6 almost immediately,” Eastwood told RACER. “I went for the fire point and those guys were amazing. The fire was out before I was out of the car, and I was out pretty quickly!”

The car’s on-the-spot retirement brought out the eighth safety car of the race.

When the race restarted with 11 hours 31 minutes to go Colin Braun held the lead following the latest round of for Acura MSR in the No. 60.

But the green flag running didn’t last as a tyre carcass from the No. 22 United ORECA of Rasmus Lindh ended up stranded on the banking causing another FCY five minutes later. Thankfully Lindh was able to to dive in for a tyre change, falling to eighth in the process.

Braun led the field away for the next restart and held station for the final 20-minute chunk of the hour despite Matt Campbell’s best attempt to keep up in the No. 6 Penske Porsche.

Behind, though, there was movement, with Nick Tandy diving up the inside of Kevin Magnussen’s No. 24 BMW in the No. 7 Porsche to put both 963s in the top three.

Magnussen would lose further track position laps later when Will Stevens in the No. 10 WTR Cadillac found a way through to fourth.

LMP2 was led by the No. 99 Spike ORECA of reigning GTP champion Dane Cameron for most of the hour before a hard-charging Nicklas Nielsen in the No. 88 AF Corse ORECA found a way up the inside into Turn 6 as the 14th hour approached.

It’s a Porsche 1-2 in GTD PRO, with the No. 20 Proton Porsche holding the lead over the No. 77 “Rexy” 911. Corvette’s No. 4 Z06 GT3.R sits third.

Inception continues to lead GTD with its Ferrari. Frederik Schandorff has put in a fine effort to this point. Robby Foley is a few seconds back in the No. 96 Turner BMW, and Trent Hindman occupies third in the No. 45 WTR Lamborghini.

In other news, the No. 5 Proton Porsche has been retired after its suspension-related issue. This means three GTP cars are now out of the race, after the Lamborghini’s mechanical woes and the No. 40 Cadillac’s shunt.

The Cetilar Ferrari is another newly confirmed retirement after the car suffered suspected electronics woes.

A couple of troubled cars have rejoined the race recently though including the No. 73 Pratt Miller ORECA, which has been circulating for about an hour following its involvement in the Turn 1-2 WTR Cadillac shunt.

The No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus also lives after coming in with debris across its front and being worked on by mechanics.
