We’re halfway through the 2025 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and it’s Porsche’s 2024 GTP title and Daytona 24-winning No. 7 963 that leads the way.
Through the hour Felipe Nasr pushed to gap the field, creating an 8.4-second gap to the sister No. 6 Porsche of Matt Campbell ,who held station to solidify the brand’s 1-2 at the top of the timing screens.
Best of the rest as we head into the 13th hour is the No. 60 Acura MSR ARX-06, which is 12 seconds adrift.
Further down the order, after a monster repair job, it was good news for the Whelen Cadillac. The V-Series.R, which ended up heavily damaged after the rear-left suspension let go with Fred Vesti at the wheel in the previous hour, is now back out but 53 laps down.
In P2 the sole-remaining United Autosports ORECA – the No. 22 – is leading with Rasmus Lindh at the wheel. He’s circulating about 7.7 seconds clear of Tom Dillmann in the No. 43 Inter Europol 07.
The biggest lead margin is currently in GTD PRO, with Neil Verhagen in the No. 1 Paul Miller BMW holding a 32-second advantage over the No. 77 ‘Rexy’ Porsche of Klaus Bachler.
Both Fords are next, the No. 65 Mustang third ahead of the No. 64 in fourth with Dennis Olsen and Seb Priaulx pushing on.
The big battle of the hour came in GTD, with Ferrari team Inception Racing’s Frederik Schandorff dicing with Wright Motorsports’ Ayhancan Guven for the class lead.
Guven tried multiple times as the hour came to a close to get by and at one point ended up running side-by-side in his Porsche into Turn 1. But he couldn’t make the move stick and Inception’s Ferrari 296 GT3 clung on into the 13th hour.
Behind the lead battle, the No. 6 Turner BMW of Jens Klingmann sits third.
As for dramas, the No. 5 Proton Porsche with Nico Pino driving had been running as high as third before it pitted with an issue at its left rear corner during the hour. The car lost control on the banking and looped into the infield. It went immediately behind the wall upon returning to the pit lane.
The team has since been dealing with the painful process of removing the broken fastener that was still securing the broken suspension arm. The car remains in the garage and 35 laps down as the hour ticked over.
As that work was underway, the GTD class Cetilar Ferrari in the hands of Antonio Fuoco appeared on pit lane, the car grinding to a halt apparently stuck in gear and unable to get to its pit stall.
The crew took some minutes to get the car into neutral. It’s also behind the wall, tumbling down the order. The team is still investigating inside the cockpit and in the meantime have completed a full brake change.
