A new games industry report has caused some concern about potential PS6 / next-gen game prices. According to veteran analyst and Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball, some within the industry are secretly hoping that GTA 6 will set a new pricing standard for major AAA blockbusters, to the tune of $80-$100.
Will gamers pay up to $100 for new PS6 games?
Ball’s massive presentation, titled The State of Video Gaming in 2025, has been circulating online since the weekend. In his report, he claims that if GTA 6 is priced between $80-$100 as opposed to the usual $70, it’ll allow other studios to adjust their prices accordingly.
For instance, a game like Call of Duty may be able to charge a base price of $100, AA games might move up to $70, some indies might move up to $50, and so on.
“Packaged game prices have never been lower in real terms than they are today even though budgets are at all-time highs and player growth is stalled,” Ball claims in his report.
Players are understandably concerned. “I don’t need video games that much,” said a ResetEra user. “I rarely buy new games this gen because of the 10 dollar increase,” revealed another. “I’m not even paying 70 for it, you’re telling me 100,” wrote a third.
Others have expressed doubts about the accuracy of Ball’s report.
Do our readers think Take-Two will price GTA 6 higher than $70? If yes, will it impact sales?
