It’s easy to see why too with the Jamie Snowden-trained horse beating Buckna easily in a maiden in November, which has worked out okay and then being sent to a Grade 2 while upped in trip. But he’s back down to 2m now and down in class and despite giving away 7lb should more than make up for that if running to the same level as before. Hombre De Guerra Drifted out a little in the odds but still appeals a lot this horse given a lot of weight by Western Fold, who carries 16lb more than the seven-year-old. Western Fold has fallen twice, pulled up once, placed sixth and won in his last five runs whereas Hombre De Guerra has seen two winners including a decent win last time out at odds-on. He also placed second behind Caldwell Potter which made him an even more attractive prospect last time out and he justified favouritism nicely. Should keep progressing and should be fine with a 10lb rise given the race today. Nab Wood This is an odd hurdle race with the likes of: Park Annonciade reverting back to hurdling, Ginger Mail seemingly struggling this season, five-year-old Golden Maverick looking to improve against these older rivals and a couple of big prices. It’s hard to see Park Annonciade win despite having only really been seen over fences this season. Golden Maverick is certainly the type of horse that wouldn’t be surprising to see a big improvement, especially at his age having also already had a 15 runs on the flat across the turf and all-weather to a mark of 83. Nab Wood however seems to be the best route to go down despite being the favourite he’s still a solid price at 15/8 given the circumstances. He was sixth last time out but that was in a field of 11 and he wasn’t far off the finish at all. Given that was his first run of the season and his first in 317 days it seems to bode well for a big run next time out and this race is ripe for the taking given the uncertainties around many of the other horses. Leader In The Park Really easy to back this favourite though his main rival is likely to come from Southoftheborder. The Nicky Henderson-trained horse was decent over fences last year and has been the favourite in each of his races under rules. With two wins, an unseat and a second place finish last time out when 30/100 he’s not too easy to back on chase debut. Whereas the favourite seems to just be getting started over fences after a disappointing debut but a complete turnaround at Kempton on Boxing Day – beating Asta La Pasta nicely and still has improvements to be made which is always promising when only upped 4lb for his success. He was beaten by Peaky Boy, also trained by Henderson, in his two previous starts over hurdles and fences so will look to get revenge on Seven Barrows today.
