TGL Preview: New York eager to bounce back vs. debuting Atlanta Drive
The race for the SoFi Cup continues with New York GC looking to bounce back against Atlanta Drive GC in it’s TGL debut. Adam Stanley previews Tuesday’s matchup.
The inaugural TGL season continues with the third match of 2025, featuring a team of proven PGA Tour stars making its debut.
The race for the SoFi Cup continues with New York Golf Club (0-1) taking on Atlanta Drive GC (0-0) – with Atlanta playing its first TGL match and New York eager to bounce back after an opening-match loss to The Bay Golf Club.
Action gets underway Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+.

TGL on Sportsnet
Tiger Woods is set to make his TGL debut when Jupiter Links Golf Club takes on the Los Angeles Golf Club led by Collin Morikawa. Catch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Jan 13.

• Atlanta Drive GC makes its TGL debut
• There will be five new holes in use while five holes will be used from previous matches – but this time with different yardages
• Atlanta’s lineup is the first TGL team this season to boast all three players inside the top 25 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Xander Schauffele is on the bench this week for New York after withdrawing from the two previous weeks’ PGA Tour events with an injury, The American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open… Cameron Young is set to make his TGL debut. Young, the only member of New York GC who is actually from New York, finished tied-eighth at The Sentry, the PGA Tour’s 2025 season opener… Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick are back in action for New York… New York GC will need to improve on its par-3 performance to get some points on the board. They were winless in their first match on par 3s (0-3-2), whereas the two winning TGL teams through two weeks have gone undefeated on par 3s (5-0-5).
Justin Thomas comes into his first TGL match after notching a runner-up result at The American Express on Sunday. It was his second runner-up finish in his last three PGA Tour events… Billy Horschel has played each of the three PGA Tour events so far in 2025. His best result came last week at The American Express, where he finished tied-21st… Patrick Cantlay has had a typically consistent start to his 2025 PGA Tour campaign, finishing tied-15th at The Sentry and tied-fifth at The American Express last week… All three members of Atlanta Drive GC are past FedExCup champions.

Modern Match Play
• Each hole has a value of 1 point and the team with the fewest shots on a hole wins the point.
• Ties are worth 0 points and there are no carryovers
• The Hammer – Each hole is worth 1 point unless a team throws the Hammer. This game-changer increases the value of a hole by 1 point when used, giving teams the opportunity to press home an advantage or put their opponents under added pressure. It changes possession each time it’s used
• The team with the most points wins the match
• Each match will be played until all 15 holes are completed, even if the match outcome has been decided. A team’s total number of holes won will be used as a tiebreaker in the SoFi Cup Standings at the end of the regular season.

Format/Sessions
Within a match, there will be two sessions played in two different formats:
• Triples — nine holes —three players per team compete in an alternate-shot format.
• Singles — six holes — one-on-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes during the session.
• Overtime — if the match is tied after 15 holes, the teams will play a best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin competition to decide the winner. This will be similar to penalty kicks in soccer. The hole location and orientation of the green will remain unchanged from the final hole of the match. The shot distance will be between 25 to 50 yards and decided pre-match by an official. All players will play from the same spot. The ball must finish on the putting surface to be eligible.

SoFi Cup Standings
• Similar to the NHL, TGL presented by SoFi will use a points-based system for the SoFi Cup Standings.
• For each match, teams can be awarded up to two points towards their regular-season total based on the following: two points for a regulation or overtime win, one point for an overtime loss and zero points for a regulation loss.
Broadcast details
New York Golf Club (0-1) vs. Atlanta Drive GC (0-0) on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
All matches will be broadcast exclusively in Canada on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+
They’ll be played at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with the capacity for 1,500 fans in seating that’s wrapped around the playing area – creating a ‘greenside’ experience.
