Lil Wayne Reveals ‘Tha Carter VI’ Release Date in New Ad
It appears Wayne won't be at Super Bowl LIX in his hometown, but there's an album on the way.
Lil Wayne may not be headlining the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, but he’s still making some noise days ahead of the big game.
Weezy starred in an ad for Cetaphil on Thursday (Feb. 6). However, it wasn’t his skin routine that left our jaws on the floor as the New Orleans icon seemingly announced that his anticipated Tha Carter VI album could be arriving on June 6.
“This campaign made perfect sense to me,” Wayne said about starring in the ad, per Rolling Stone. “The world knew I was disappointed, but what they didn’t know was that it made me determined to deliver something way bigger.”
The clip finds Weezy coming to the rescue of some awkward situations like a dad being introduced to his daughter’s boyfriend, but finding a condom in his wallet and then a kiss cam sporting event jumbotron disaster.
There are multiple easter egg nuggets hinting at a 6/6 date inscribed across the ad through jerseys and scoreboards. Weezy in the studio gets asked if he’s still going to the big game to which he replies, “Nah, this is time sensitive.”
A notice on the studio door reveals, “Do Not Disturb ‘Til 06-06-25 Carter VI.” The image of the closing scene has gone viral with fans taking the June 6 date as the release announcement for his Carter VI album, which is the first installment in the decorated series since C5 in 2018.
“What attracted me to this project was the chance to flip the script,” Weezy added. “Showing a sensitive side isn’t a weakness—it’s a power. There’s nothing more real than turning those types of moments into a display of strength.”
The third, fourth and fifth installments of Tha Carter each topped the Billboard 200 and the Drake-assisted “She Will” has had a second life vaulting the 2011 track to top the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week.
