We are seemingly in the year a new Grand Theft Auto finally sees the light of day. GTA 6‘s release window is Fall 2025, which means we have more than half a year to speculate on Rockstar Games‘ follow-up. One such piece of speculation suggests that the Standard Edition of the game will not include GTA Online, which will be sold separately at the game’s inevitable launch.

Separating online component may keep GTA 6 at $70 leaker suggests

In a recent GTA Forums post, known GTA leaker Tez2 claimed the popular online mode will be sold separately from the GTA 6 Standard Edition. This would not be too surprising as both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2’s online modes are both currently available as standalone products for $19.99. However, this would be the first time it would be sold separately at launch.

Tez2 speculates this could be beneficial for both Take-Two Interactive and the consumer. For the publisher, this would allow new Grand Theft Auto products into gamers hands by lowering the cost of admission for its online component, similar to how it currently is with Grand Theft Auto 5. For the consumer, this means the story component can be sold at the now standard $70 price tag.

“T2 could benefit by pricing the online standalone lower, making it accessible for those who can’t afford the $70 or $80 price. Eventually, those players will upgrade to access the story mode, so that’s a win-win for them,” Tez2 wrote . “This also opens an opportunity, some players may be eager to access the story mode but can’t afford the upgrade price too. That’s when they could slide in GTA+, and offer Game Pass-like access. They’ll net extra profits from players who keep subscribing instead of saving for the upgrade. Another win-win for T2.”

“The win for us is if the online standalone is priced as low as it can be and factored into the total cost, the game could be sold at the standard $70 instead of a higher price,” they continued.

Much of this stems from some fans believing the starting cost for GTA 6 would be $100. Of course, like the rest of the claims here, this is all rumors and speculation. All of this has yet to be confirmed by either Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. In other words, take this all with a grain of salt for now.
