For years, the From Software community have been begging for a Bloodborne remaster. So much time passed, one fan even took matters in his own hands by releasing a patch in 2021 that would allow the game to run at 60 frames per second. Now, nearly four years later, Sony has sent a notice to shut it down.

Does this mean we’ll finally get a Bloodborne remaster?

According to Bloodborne mod creator Lance McDonald, he received a DMCA takedown notification from Sony Interactive Entertainment asking to remove links to the 60 fps patch. McDonald has acted accordingly and confirms the links for the mod are no longer posted.

“On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps,” said McDonald. “Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so.”

McDonald continued the thread by sharing a link to a video showcasing the patch in action and explaining how it works. He also shared a photo of his encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida with a pretty funny caption.

“I met [Shuhei Yoshida] and said to him, ‘I make mods for PlayStation games,’ and he said, ‘oh!’ And I said ‘I made the 60 fps mod for bloodborne,’ and he laughed so hard.”

As mentioned above, this mod has been available for nearly four years now. Why would SIE want to finally take down a mod many players have used and enjoyed? Perhaps the company is finally going to give the fans what they want and release a remaster for Bloodborne.

Bluepoint has experience remaking beloved games for modern platforms, one of which was From Software’s Demon’s Souls. With their latest project canceled, they could be a good candidate to take on such a project. It also wouldn’t be surprising if SIE was doing this just to do it. Only time will tell if the fabled remaster will come to fruition.
