Better ERP and Cost Savings With ROI Healthcare Solutions

Diana Van Blaricom, SVP, ERP Strategy at ROI Healthcare Solutions, says that the surge of EHR adoption in the wake of the 2009 HITECH Act has played itself out, and many organizations are turning to ERP systems to improve operations. But as explained in this video by Van Blaricom and Jeff Tennant, Executive Vice President of AI/HIS Strategy and Services, many organizations miss out on millions of dollars of savings because they don’t understand the legacy systems in place, or how to maximize their use of the new systems.

A new CIO or CFO should concentrate during their first few months on what Van Blaricom calls “application rationalization.” This involves ferreting out old, and often forgotten, systems that might be wasting time and costing a lot of money. Tennant says that ROI, as a consultant, often finds that management doesn’t know that 25% to 35% of their current systems existed.

Tennant emphasizes education, which should be carried out among clinicians and administrators across the organization. It’s particularly useful concerning the use applications of AI, which he finds valuable for registration and the revenue cycle. Both experts promote “microlearning” and “in-context learning,” which could include on-screen guidance as staff work within the context of their regular business processes.

Tennant advises finding out first what AI enhancements the organization’s EHR offers, but being open to outside tools discovered by staff. He describes “internal marketing” of ERP systems and warns, “Don’t make physicians do something they don’t want to do.”
