Unlike current AI-powered developments, AGI agents are more adaptable to any area and more proactive when making decisions autonomously. For OpenAI, an AGI is a “highly autonomous system that performs humans at most economically valuable work.”

In early 2025, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed in a blog post that developing AGI is the ultimate goal that led to the founding of the company. The post also states that OpenAI already knows “how to build AGI,” and that these types of “entities” could integrate into the workforce at some point this year. This and another post shared recently on X/Twitter led many to speculate that the firm was already working on an AGI, and that it could even arrive as early as next month.

However, Altman himself is putting a stop to the rumors. On Elon Musk’s social network, the executive claimed that OpenAI is “not gonna deploy AGI next month, nor have we built it.” He also said that the company has “some very cool stuff for you but pls chill and cut your expectations 100x!”

AGI agents have the potential to completely change the tech industry. While the current ones developed have already been transformative, the next evolutionary step in the segment could go even further. However, developing them is not easy, as you can imagine. After all, we are talking about software with a type of intelligence similar to that of a human. So, you’ll have to be patient to see a mass implementation of the technology.
