Tobin Sprout announces new EP (hear “Pop De Dada”), touring with The Moles
The former Guided by Voices guitarist/vocalist’s new EP is out February 10 and his tour with The Moles hits Boston, Philly, DC and Brooklyn in February.
Former Guided by Voices guitarist and vocalist Tobin Sprout is back with a new four-song EP that will be out February 10 (pre-order). He recorded it in Athens, GA and Detroit with his new group Bevil Web that features Tommy Schichtel (B-sides, Fuzzrites, The Concussions), Christopher Schichtel (B-sides, Fuzzrites, The Concussions), Michael Houseman (Lost Systems, User, Fuzzrites), and Elf Power‘s Peter Alvanos,
“The Bevil Web band name was coined by Pete Jamison, original Guided By Voices manager and t-shirt maker,” Tobin tells us. “I used the name for a couple side projects in the ‘90s and decided to use it again for this new group.”
First single “Pop Da Dada” finds Tobin still in fine form with Bevil Web providing terrific, jangly backing, and the production is in that mid-fi sweet spot. The song premieres in this post and you can listen below.
Tobin Sprout with Bevil Web will be on a short Northeast tour with The Moles in February, where he’ll be playing solo and GBV songs, with Tommy Schichtel playing a few from his new album Touch The Weed, which was just put out via Tobin’s Petrified Fish Records. The tour hits Boston, Philly and DC before wrapping up in Brooklyn at Union Pool on 2/15. All dates are below.
