Tesla Model 3 Sales Fall Short Against Xiaomi’s SU7

Perhaps at this point in time it’s safe to say that Xiaomi’s SU7 electric car is a major success for the company, which itself is a relative newcomer to the EV scene. After achieving target sales units in a considerable amount of time throughout 2024, it looks like the SU7 has again set a milestone in terms of sales, this time against a widely-known brand.

More specifically, the Xiaomi SU7 outsold the Tesla Model 3 in Chinese markets during December 2024, making it the fourth time that Xiaomi’s debut EV dominated its veteran rival in the local scene. Since its launch, the SU7 has seen strong demand and sales, and given that it’s a homegrown brand it’s not too surprising to see support for the Xiaomi-branded EV.

Analysts also attribute the SU7’s market performance to Tesla’s price hikes for the Model 3, which is around $2,000 more expensive than the SU7. Launched back in March 2024, the SU7 is only the first of Xiaomi’s EV line, with the company planning a larger electric SUV in the form of the YU7.
