JADE has recalled the time Harry Styles “ignored” her after the pair went on a first date as teenagers.

During a new episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, the soloist and former Little Mix singer explained that she and Styles hit it off when they both auditioned for The X Factor in 2010.

“I think we went on like one date when we were 16 or something,” she remembered. “He’d just got put in a band, and it was really funny, because we kept in touch. Then the minute they went on live shows, he didn’t message me back.”

JADE jokingly added: “I thought, ‘That’s it, now he’s gone. He’s made it’.”

The ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ star – real name Jade Thirlwall – tried her luck on The X Factor in 2010, but didn’t make it through. Styles auditioned that same year, and was subsequently put in a boyband alongside Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.

One Direction finished in third place on the show, behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. Thirlwall then auditioned again for the next season in 2011, and won as part of Little Mix.

She told Theroux that she crossed paths with Styles after she made it onto The X Factor the second time around, and said he apologised for ghosting her.

“He was like, ‘I’m really sorry I ignored you’,” she continued. “I was so young, it didn’t really matter. But he was always very, very lovely. He’s gotten himself to where he is because he’s very talented and he’s very lovely. Very charming.”

Since releasing her debut solo single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ last summer, JADE has shared the tracks ‘Midnight Cowboy’, ‘Fantasy’ and ‘IT Girl’.

Meanwhile, she recently opened up about how she didn’t know anyone who came away from The X Factor without “some sort of mental health issue”.

“I don’t think that kind of show can exist any more. We’re in a different place now,” she explained. “We wouldn’t put someone that’s mentally unwell on a TV screen and laugh at them while they sing terribly. The concept of a joke act on a show is just cruel.”

In other news, JADE has been announced as the third female headliner for this year’s Mighty Hoopla festival in London. She appears on the top of the bill alongside Kesha and Ciara, who were confirmed last October.

Last month saw ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ land at Number 5 on NME‘s 50 best songs of 2024 list, where the single was described as “absolutely riveting”.
