CHINA. SEKKISEI, part of KOSÉ Corporation, has joined forces with the Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association and Wangfujing Duty Free to launch the SAVE the BLUE Hainan Mangrove Tree Planting event.

The event, held at Dongzhai Port’s mangrove conservation area, welcomed a total of 55 volunteers, including representatives from KOSÉ Travel Retail, Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association, Wangfujing International Duty Free Harbor City as well as local universities.

The event raised awareness about the critical role mangroves play in maintaining ecological balance, purifying water quality and combatting climate change through carbon sequestration and biodiversity protection.

In addition, participants visited the Hainan Dongzhai Port National Nature Reserve to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of mangrove ecosystems.

The mangrove planting initiative follows the launch of the ‘Small Points, Big Energy’ project in September, a public welfare campaign co-led by Wangfujing Duty Free and SEKKISEI in response to the post-typhoon reconstruction of Hainan.

Through the initiative, Wangfujing Duty Free customers contributed points that were converted into public welfare funds used to purchase mangrove saplings to help reforest disaster-affected areas. Over 7,000 points were collected, resulting in the successful planting of numerous saplings in Wenchang, Hainan.

The event also marked the third year of SEKKISEI’s ‘SAVE the BLUE’ environmental project in Hainan. During the event, KOSÉ Travel Retail General Manager Eiji Yamamoto underlined the company’s commitment to deepening collaborations with partners such as Blue Ribbon and Wangfujing Duty Free to advance ecological conservation efforts in Hainan and beyond.

Yamamoto concluded the event by presenting certificates of recognition to participants, highlighting their contribution to the initiative.

The SEKKISEI SAVE the BLUE project, launched in 2009, initially focused on coral conservation in Okinawa, Japan, and has since expanded to nine countries, including China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. A portion of the sales from designated SEKKISEI products are donated to local environmental projects, furthering the brand’s goal of fostering sustainable development.

SEKKISEI’s efforts align with KOSÉ Group’s broader mission of contributing to the beauty and health of the planet through sustainable practices.

Moving forward, SEKKISEI is actively engaging in further environmental conservation efforts, inspiring more consumers and partners to support sustainability and safeguard the Earth’s natural ecosystems. ✈
