Every director has a favorite actor who is enjoyable to work with.

The long-standing relationships may be rare in Hollywood with its ever-changing business decisions to maximize dollars and exposure.

For director and writer Ryan Coogler, he worked with Michael B. Jordan on his feature film directorial debut with Fruitvale Station in 2013. That film earned both gentleman recognition from many film festivals, critic associations and awards at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Since then, they both worked together on Creed, Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Coogler even produced Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut with Creed III. Now Sinners will be their fifth collaboration as director and actor as both elevate their challenges into the horror genre.

Sinners also star Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

Here is the description of the film:

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

In a press conference for the second trailer release, director Ryan Coogler was asked by the moderator Juju Green about his relationship with Michael B. Jordan.

“We grew up in the business together. Mike was a full-time actor as a child. I got to meet him after he had already been in some great shows and some great movies,” said Coogler in the video conference attended by LRM Online’s Gig Patta. “In terms of being like a leading man in featured films, his first time doing that was on my first feature film Fruitvale Station. He’s got this incredible mix of talent and charisma.”

He distinguished the continuance on working with Jordan due to his dedication and hardwork.

Coogler continued, “A lot of stuff’s God given. But then he also is a real craftsman. He really cares about the craft, constantly trying to get better at it and constantly trying to challenge himself. It’s very unique to find that in somebody. We’ve became friends and continue to challenge each other. It has been a great working relationship for sure. And a great relationship.”

This collaboration is comparable to the respected Martin Scorsese who often works with either Robert De Niro or Leo DiCaprio on many projects.

“Most filmmakers have their people that they end up working with a lot,” Coogler addressed the relationship between directors and actor. “All of my favorite filmmakers have those relationships. It makes it easier. It’s hard to make a movie. When you have somebody who clicks, who understands you, who gets you, and it doesn’t feel like work all the time. Mike and I have been able to find that in each other.”

Sinners is in theaters nationwide on March 7 and internationally on March 5.
