The Phoenix Suns appear to be gearing up to make a move ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Suns are acquiring three first-round picks from the Utah Jazz in exchange for their own unprotected first-round pick in 2031.
The picks heading to Phoenix are:
- The least favourable first in 2025 between Cleveland and Minnesota.
- The least favourable first in 2027 between Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah.
- And the least favourable first in 2029 between Cleveland, Minnesota and Utah.
The trade gives the Suns more assets to move in a bigger deal ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline. The Suns have disappointed this season with a 21-21 record that currently has them in the final play-in spot. They now have just over two weeks to add to an aging core built around Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal for a playoff push.
The Jazz had a surplus of draft picks due to the Rudy Gobert trade with Minnesota and Donovan Mitchell trade with Cleveland. Charania reports that even after the trade the Jazz still hold 11 first-round picks over the next seven years.
