Report: Spurs rookie Stephon Castle committed to participate in Slam Dunk Contest

A rookie will have a chance to make a name for himself at All-Star weekend this year.

San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle has reportedly committed to participate in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday.

Castle, who was selected by San Antonio fourth overall in the 2024 Draft, has been an electric and athletic force for the upstart Spurs squad. The 20-year-old has averaged 11.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

Standing at six-foot-six, the former UConn Husky has 25 dunks on the season and has shown an affinity for playing above the rim this season, having already thrown down some highlight reel slams in his young career.

He becomes the first Spurs player in 37 years to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest since Greg Anderson did so in 1988.

Last year, the NBA invited Miami Heat rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. to take part in the contest.

G League player Mac McClung is the reigning two-time champion of the contest. The NBA has not yet announced if they have invited the 26-year-old Magic guard.
