Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is just around the corner. Tomorrow, players will be able to play the highly-anticipated historical RPG on PS5. For those who upgraded to the PS5 Pro, it seems developer Warhorse Studios found a way to utilize the upgraded console’s capabilities successfully.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 offers 60 fps, as well as “well utilized” PSSR implementation

According to Thomas Morgan of Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer), both the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 perform well. Base PS5 offers a 30 frames per second (fps) fidelity mode and a 60 fps performance mode. Fidelity mode, which runs at 1440p resolution, offers a visual boost to foliage and shadow draw as well as improved ambient occlusion. The only notable drawback besides the lower frame rate is input delay. Otherwise, the PS5 version’s performance is steady and more consistent than its Xbox Series X counterpart.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on PS5 Pro essentially features all the benefits of the base PS5’s fidelity mode, but at 60 fps. This is thanks to the enhanced console’s AI-driven upsampling technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which reconstructs a base 1296p base resolution resulting in a more detailed 4K final image.

“Seven years on since the original game, our first look at Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 suggests that its ambition fits the capabilities of each modern console well,” says Morgan. “Perhaps its greatest success is in offering a viable 60 frames per second option on PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X – while also letting us go above that on supporting VRR displays.”

“It’s also heartening to see that PS5 Pro’s extra horsepower, plus PSSR upscaling technology, are well utilised in this case,” Morgan continues. “The result for Pro users is a smart fusion of PS5‘s performance and fidelity modes, combining 60fps gameplay and higher visual settings. It gives us a hassle-free way to enjoy the game with no need to trial two graphics options first.”
