PS Plus and Game Catalog Ramps Down Monthly PS4 Games

One of the primary benefits for PlayStation Plus subscribers will be taken away in a year. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced PS4 games will no longer be a “key benefit” for subscribers. Games for the last gen platform will only be offered occasionally through PS Plus’ Monthly Games and Game Catalog perks.

PS4 games no longer a “key benefit” for PS Plus subscribers

Announced on a recent PlayStation Blog post, the reasoning behind the change is due to more players shifting to the PS5. As a result, Sony’s online gaming subscription service will focus on offering games specifically for the newest generation. The statement does claim it will occasionally offer PS4 games through both its Month Games and Game Catalog perks but will shift its focus to PS5 starting January 2026. PS4 games already redeemed will not be affected by the new change.

“As many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit, PlayStation Plus is also evolving with this trend and will focus on offering PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit starting January 2026,” said SIE director of game services Adam Michel. “As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026. We may still provide titles that can be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date.”

“Please note, this won’t affect the PS4 Monthly Games that you have already redeemed from PlayStation Plus,” Michel continued. “You’ll continue to have access to games you’ve already redeemed as long as you remain a member. For Game Catalog, PS4 games will still be available to play until it leaves the catalog as part of our monthly refresh.”
