Earlier this week came the news that Netflix is set to reboot iconic 1970s NBC historical drama series “Little House on the Prairie”.
The original series centered on a family who lives on a farm in Minnesota in the 1870s–90s, depicting life in a small agrarian community during those hard times with quite a few episodes centered on the family’s maturing second daughter Laura played by Melissa Gilbert.
In the wake of the announcement, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly slammed the upcoming reboot saying on X: “Netflix, if you woke-ify ‘Little House on the Prairie’ I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project.”
The comment drew a response from Gilbert on Threads who issued a sharp takedown, encouraging Kelly to watch any episode on any streaming platform anywhere in the world:
“Apparently Megyn tweeted (I’m not on that platform) asking that Netflix not ‘woke-Ify’ their ‘Little House’ remake. Ummm…watch the original again. TV doesn’t get too much more ‘woke’ than we did. We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other ‘woke ‘ topic you can think of. Thank you very much.”
Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys,” “Vampire Diaries”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series dubbed a ‘reimagining’ of the original 1930s book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studios are producing the new version which follows the family who will be in Kansas this time out, and there will also be Osage characters.
The books have sold over 73 million copies to date while the original NBC series aired for nine seasons and 204 episodes between 1974 and 1982. That series remains popular, the show garnering 13.25 billion viewing minutes on Peacock last year – making it one of the most-streamed library titles of 2024.
