Changes made during a studio reorganization this week have reportedly now become permanent for “Dragon Age” and “Mass Effect” developer BioWare, which has now halved the size of its staff compared to two years ago.

Bloomberg reports that this has partly been caused by owner Electronic Arts and their decision to make cuts and move employees to different teams within the company.

Some staff thought they were being temporarily loaned to other EA studios this week to help with projects like “Skate” and “Iron Man” because the next “Mass Effect” title is still in pre-production and did not need the entire studio.

The report indicates the transferred staff were told this week those temporary moves have morphed into permanent relocations and they are no longer BioWare employees. Those who wanted to work at BioWare again would have to look for job openings.

BioWare, which consisted of more than 200 people two years ago, has now halved in size – down to less than 100 employees today. A small team of veteran employees is currently working on “Mass Effect 5”.

The news follows EA lowering its forecast for the current business year due to the underperformance of “EA Sports FC 25” and “Dragon Age: The Veilguard”.
