Portland election office vandalized in 'orchestrated attack,' police say

The Portland Police Bureau is investigating an “orchestrated attack” on the Multnomah County Elections building in Oregon on Monday.

“We've got video that'll be coming out shortly and it indicates or demonstrates what I would consider to be an orchestrated attack on this building,” Police chief Bob Day said during a Tuesday press conference.  

“It's about eight to 20 folks, they were on scene for probably two minutes, so they definitely showed up with a plan, with some intentionality, and were gone just as quickly after they did the damage,” he continued.

Day said the attack, which occurred before 2 a.m. on Monday, resulted in broken windows and graffiti at the property. The graffiti on the walls of the building was “anti-establishment” and “anti-government" according to Day, but he said there was no direct connection to President Trump's Monday inauguration ceremony.

“At this point we are not suggesting that this is directly related to the inauguration. I think it's important to remember that we have seen these types of attacks regardless of who's in office,” the police chief told reporters. “It does not tend to be so much associated with the ruling party as much as it has to do with an ideological belief around government and establishment in general.”

Law enforcement said they would be reviewing the footage and working with Crime Stoppers to issue a reward to individuals who can provide information on the attack.

No suspects have been arrested as officials continue to investigate the incident.

Police are still working to uncover information connected to a ballot box fire in October. Authorities discovered a “Free Gaza” message etched on an incendiary device used to cause the flames.
