In week 11, the Eagles soared to a 26-18 win thanks to two Saquon Barkley touchdowns and 20 points in the 4th quarter. Five weeks later, it was Washington’s turn to stage their own late show as rookie phenom Jayden Daniels threw five touchdown passes – three of them in the 4th quarter and one with six seconds left – to clinch a sensational 36-33 comeback victory. It hasn’t always been this close between the two in recent years, however. In fact, that week 16 success for the Commanders was only their fourth against the Eagles in the last 16 meetings. Few outsiders expected much from Washington this season, given the change of ownership, entirely new coaching staff and rookie quarterback. Those moves on and off the field, however, have completely reversed the franchise’s fortunes. The aforementioned Daniels, who was selected 2nd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, has transformed the offense and is expected to win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year off the back of throwing for over 4,000 yards (and counting) and 29 touchdowns, as well as rushing for close to 1,000 yards and 6 touchdowns. Washington has arguably never had such high-calibre quarterback play. No rookie signal caller has ever played in a Super Bowl and few have come this close. Having pulled off the upset against Tampa Bay in the wildcard round, they then shocked the number 1 seed, and Super Bowl favourites, Detroit in a stunning 45-31 win last week. Their season has been one of many highlights, including that late victory over the Eagles and an even more dramatic win via a hail mary against the Chicago Bears. They are very much the feel-good story of the NFL this season and many neutrals will be backing them to go all the way.Philadelphia’s spot in the postseason has never been in much doubt ever since a slightly shaky 2-2 start. For them, their bye week came at the right time and they strung together 10 straight wins from there, a run only briefly halted by Washington. They finished off their schedule with two more convincing wins to end with a 14-3 record. Their playoff victories have also had a comfortable feel to them, overcoming Green Bay by 12 points and holding the lead for the vast majority of their divisional round matchup with the L.A. Rams. Philly have been one of the strongest teams in the NFC over the past few seasons and have very few weaknesses. An elite offensive line, the ideal receiver duo, plenty of impact players on defence who create turnovers and now, an almost unstoppable running game whether the ball is in the hands of running back Barkley or quarterback Jalen Hurts. Having narrowly lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago, they’ll be hoping the addition of Barkley as well as the drafting and signing of key defensive pieces such as Jalen Carter and Zack Baun can make the difference this time. Eagles vs Commanders betting tips The bookies in the US are certainly expecting Philly to reach their second Super Bowl in three years, and their third in eight, having set the point spread at around 6 to 6.5 points in their favour. Perhaps this is with home field advantage, and potentially changeable weather, in mind as no visiting side has left Lincoln Financial Field with a win since the Atlanta Falcons back in September. The fans at “the Linc” are also among the loudest and most hostile in the league. The only team to have won away in this year’s playoffs, however, are Washington – twice.

The fans at “the Linc” are also among the loudest and most hostile in the league. The only team to have won away in this year’s playoffs, however, are Washington – twice. I would back the Commanders to cover here, as this could easily become a shootout or a scrappy, defensive affair decided by a last second field goal. Whoever ends up booking their ticket to the big game in a fortnight’s time, here are three props that are well worth taking a punt on:
Saquon Barkley over 125.5 rushing yards
Saquon Barkley has been a revelation in the Eagles’ backfield this season, having cut ties with NFC East rivals, the New York Giants. He ran for over 2,000 yards in total during the regular season and was on course to break Eric Dickerson’s all-time rushing record, until coach Nick Sirianni decided to rest him ahead of their final game.
In his 18 games for Philly – 16 regular season, 2 postseason – he has only failed to reach triple digit rushing yards five times, and with these two playoff performances, has raised his average yards per game to 129.4. This would therefore be the sweet spot to take his over/under.
