Himesh Patel (“Station Eleven”), Bill Irwin (“Legion”) and Samantha Morton (“The Walking Dead”) are the latest to sign on for Christopher Nolan‘s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” at Universal Pictures.
Patel previously worked with Nolan on 2020’s “Tenet” while Irwin had a role in 2014’s “Interstellar”. This marks Morton’s first effort with the director. As usual, specifics of their individual roles are under wraps.
The trio join an ever growing ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal and Charlize Theron.
The feature is an adaptation of Homer’s epic 8th century BCE Greek poem that recounts the ten-year journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War.
He and his crew encounter many perils, ranging from a cyclops to the multi-headed monster Scylla, whirlpool-generating Charybdis, the lethal Sirens, the Cyclops Polyphemus, the sorceress Circe, the nymph Calypso and the vengeful god of the sea Poseidon. Meanwhile, Odysseus’s wife and grown son must contend with aggressive suitors that have designs on the throne.
The project will shoot throughout the first half of this year in Sicily, the UK and Morocco using brand-new IMAX film technology ahead of a planned July 17th 2026 release.
