NHL announces Canucks quarter-century team

The NHL revealed its picks for the Vancouver Canucks’ quarter-century team on Tuesday, which includes multiple players from the franchise’s most competitive seasons over the last 25 years.

The quarter-century team is composed of five skaters (three forwards, two defencemen) and one goalie who played for the team after Jan. 1, 2000. The players were voted by Media members, retired NHLers and club executives.

Forwards Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Markus Naslund join defencemen Alexander Edler, current captain Quinn Hughes and goaltender Roberto Luongo on the Canucks’ first team.

The Sedin twins are the only two Canucks Hall of Famers to have spent the entirety of their career in Vancouver, each playing over 1,300 games across 17 seasons (Henrik with 1,330, Daniel with 1,306).

During their tenure, the Swedish siblings managed to finish first and second on the franchise’s all-time scoring list, with Henrik recording 1,070 points and Daniel right behind him at 1,041.

At just 25-years-old, Quinn Hughes has already notched the most assists (328) and ranks second in all-time points (383) among Canucks defencemen. The 2023-24 Norris Trophy winner is also second to only Cale Makar with an average of 0.94 points per game since Jan. 1, 2000 (minimum 82 games played).

Alex Edler is the only Canucks defencemen to finish with more points in this quarter-century than Hughes, finishing with 409 in 925 games. The 2004 third-round pick also picked up the most playoff points among Vancouver defencemen in that time frame with 38 in 82 total games.

The second team includes three active players with forwards J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson and goaltender Thatcher Demko being named alongside defencemen Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund.
