New Man City signing rivals Usain Bolt’s record-breaking speed in stunning sprint
Footage of Manchester City’s new signing Abdukodir Khusanov sprinting at blistering speed has emerged on social media. The former Lens defender sprinted at a blistering speed of 37km/h during a Ligue 1 clash. The centre-back is known for his top speed in defenceGetty The video from Ligue 1’s X account shows new City signing Khusanov setting speed at 37km per hour, just shy of the 37.58km per hour average set by Usain Bolt when he set the 100m world record. Whilst Khusanov nears Bolt’s average speed, the Jamaican’s top speed actually reached 44.72km per hour, equivalent to 27.78 mph. This speed was attained during the 60-80th metre of his 100m sprint at the 2009 World Championship when he claimed the world record with a time of 9.58 seconds. Man City will be hopeful that Khusanov can bring his electric speed to the back line, particularly given the expected departure of captain Kyle Walker to AC Milan. talkSPORT understands that Walker is set to join the Italian giants on a two-and-a-half year deal but City are yet to receive a formal offer for him. It’s understood Milan want to sign him on an initial loan. Walker has made 319 appearances for Man City and has largely been recognised as one of the best right-backs in Premier League history. His speed has been a key quality of Walker’s in recent years, but his campaign so far has seen him caught short a few times – notably against Adama Traore. Khusanov’s signing was announced on Monday after the Uzbekistan international moved from Lens for £33million. He subsequently became the first Uzbek player to sign for a Premier League club and will wear the no.45 shirt for Man City. Khusanov became City’s first signing of the transfer windowGetty At international level, the centre-back has won 18 caps and has helped Uzbekistan qualify for a first ever World Cup in 2026. He was previously a target for Tottenham but became City’s first signing of the January transfer window. “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club that I have enjoyed watching for a long time,” he told the club’s website. “This squad is full of the best players in the world, and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them. “And of course Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever and I am so excited to learn from him and improve my game even more. “This is a very proud moment for me and my family to be joining a great Club like Manchester City and I’m more than ready for this challenge.” Vitor Reis became the second signing for City, making the move from Palmeiras for £29.6m.
