United are in the market to sign a new attacker before Monday’s transfer deadline with Marcus Rashford closing in on a loan move to Villa. Rashford will join Villa on a temporary deal for the remainder of the season after the club agreed to pay 70 per cent of the forward’s £325,000-a-week salary. It’s understood that Villa also have the option to make Rashford’s move permanent in the summer window for £40 million. United are now focused on signing a replacement for Rashford and have already made an approach for Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel, who has already rejected a move to Tottenham this week. But according to The Athletic, Bailey is also being discussed internally by United and a loan move would be considered if he is made available by Villa. Villa signed Bailey in a £25m deal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. Speaking after Villa’s 2-0 defeat away to Wolves on Saturday night, Unai Emery said his side were in the market to sign three new players before the end of the window. ‘We have to replace Diego Carlos, we have to replace Emi Buendia and we have to replace Jhon Duran,’ Emery said. ‘It is not easy because we don’t want to replace them with players who will not help us like I want. We are being demanding and intelligent.’ Villa have now agreed to sign Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the season, while Rashford is due to undergo his medical on Sunday.
