Hyatt Business Card $100 Hotel Credit: How It Works

The World of Hyatt Business Card (review) is Hyatt’s co-branded business credit card, issued by Chase. The card offers a generous welcome bonus, and there are also several reasons to hold onto the card (note that you’re eligible for the card even if you have the personal version).

The product has a $199 annual fee, though one perk that helps offset that annual fee is up to $100 in Hyatt credits annually. In this post, I want to go over how those credits work, and how to account for these credits in the context of the card’s overall value proposition.

Details of the Hyatt Business Card $100 hotel credit

The World of Hyatt Business Card offers up to $100 in Hyatt credits every anniversary year. Just spend $50 or more at any Hyatt property in the world with the card, and you’ll receive a $50 statement credit, up to two times each year. As you’d expect, there are some terms to be aware of:

• The up to $100 in credits is offered each anniversary year (coinciding with your card’s anniversary), rather than every calendar year; it’s also offered in the year in which you open the card
• You can unlock the $50 credit when you make a single eligible purchase of $50 or more; in other words, two $25 purchases wouldn’t unlock this credit
• While the credit is broken up into two $50 credits, there are no timing restrictions beyond that; in other words, you could use the two $50 credits just days apart, so it’s not broken up semi-annually
• The credit can be applied either toward room rate or incidental spending at any Hyatt property worldwide, as long as the purchase is processed by the hotel
• It can take up to two billing cycles from when a purchase is made for the $50 credit to post, though in my experience it posts way faster than that
• Eligible purchases can be made by either the basic card member or an authorized user, though you still only get a total of up to $100 in credits per year
• There’s no registration required to take advantage of this, as long as you make the correct eligible purchases with the card

This is one of the most straightforward hotel credits offered by any credit card. As long as you spend at least $50 twice per year at Hyatt properties, even if it’s just on incidentals when redeeming World of Hyatt points, then this should basically be worth face value.

Let me put it in even more concrete of a way — if you don’t value this credit at close to face value, then the World of Hyatt Business Card isn’t for you, since you probably don’t stay at Hyatts enough.

Also keep in mind that when you stay at a Hyatt, you can always split your bill between multiple cards at check-out. So if you want to use a different card for most of your Hyatt spending, you can still at least charge $50 to this card during a stay, to unlock the credit.

How this credit impacts the card’s value proposition

The way I view it, the $100 Hyatt credit on the World of Hyatt Business Card essentially slashes the card’s real annual fee in half, from $199 to around $99. Of course you still have to pay that fee, but my point is that anyone who has the card should be getting the $100 in statement credits.

Now, what benefits are you getting for that? While the card offers many perks, there are two benefits I consider to be most valuable with this card:

• The card offers entry-level World of Hyatt Discovery status, not just for the primary cardmember, but also for up to five employees (they don’t even have to be authorized users on the card)
• This is the best card for spending your way to World of Hyatt elite status, as you earn five elite nights for every $10,000 spent in a calendar year; this can help you unlock World of Hyatt Globalist status, plus other World of Hyatt Milestone Rewards perks

Long story short, this is a card you get for the great bonus, plus the ability to spend your way to elite status. However, this isn’t otherwise a slam dunk product, like the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review).

That card has an annual fee of just $95, and there are so many reasons to pick it up. Among other things, the card offers a Category 1-4 anniversary free night award, five elite nights toward status annually with no spending requirement, and more. The card is also worth spending $15,000 on annually, as you can earn a second Category 1-4 free night award that way.

Bottom line

The World of Hyatt Business Card is Hyatt’s only business card. The card has a better welcome bonus than the personal card, and is also more rewarding for everyday spending, in terms of the pace at which you earn elite nights.

The card has a $199 annual fee, though offers up to $100 in Hyatt credits annually, which just about anyone with the card should be able to maximize. To me, that really cuts the cost of holding onto the card in half.

Still, this card isn’t quite as much of a no-brainer to hold onto as the World of Hyatt Credit Card, which I find to be well worth it for those who stay at Hyatts with any frequency.
