It was only four months ago that legendary film composer Hans Zimmer brought his orchestral tour to a sold out Madison Square Garden (which was on his birthday). This time he stopped at a packed Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday as part of The World of Hans Zimmer Tour. The early set time of 7:30PM had ticket-holders scrambling to make it inside, causing a delayed start, but Zimmer took to the stage at 7:50 PM and with his band and orchestra, performing a nearly three-hour set that included his themes from films, including Gladiator, the Batman “Dark Knight trilogy,” Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lion King, No Time to Die, Dunkirk, the Dune films (for which he just won a Grammy), and more.
The show opened with Brooklyn native Loire Cotler‘s arresting vocals from the Dune score as she made her way across the stage before the screen revealed Zimmer and the rest of his orchestra. Hans addressed the audience throughout, interspersing his famous musicals cues with memories, musing and band introductions. Zimmer’s longtime friends and collaborators including Lebo M, Tina Guo, Molly Rogers, Guthrie Govan and Johnny Marr’s son, Nile, all featured throughout the performance. The latter provided a stirring rendition of his father’s original guitar segment during “Time” from Inception for the show’s finale.
