Since the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 was announced, it seems the hatches are open for any and every Xbox game to come to Sony’s gaming platform. It has been recently rumored for awhile now that Marcus Fenix will bring his fight with the Locust Horde to PlayStation consoles sometime this year. However, it now seems this release will be a collection of the first three Gears of War entries and will launch for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously.
A Gears of War collection featuring the first three games set for PS5 release
According to known leaker eXtas1s a Gears of War collection is currently in the works. Although they are unsure when it will get announced, they claim it will be multiplatform at launch. Apparently, the game will feature cross-play, allowing player to play together across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
“I can talk about Gears Collection because [the] Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists, and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don’t know when it will be, but it will be announced as multiplatform day one,” said eXtas1s (as translated by ResetEra member Rychu). “I repeat again. When these kinds of remasters are announced, remasters of the old Gears games are going to be able to be cross-platform [allowing players to] play simultaneously. The only thing I haven’t been able to confirm is the launch of a Switch version, but it can be played cross-platform on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.”
This is not the first time Gears of War was rumored for a PS5 release. Earlier this month, Windows Central’s Jez Corden claimed Gears of War: Ultimate Edition could come to Sony’s console in 2025.
Like all rumors and speculation, take this with a grain of salt. Sure, tons of leakers and insiders are in some shape or form corroborating each other’s statements. However, game development can change in an instant, potentially nullifying all of this. Until it is officially revealed, we’ll just have to keep dreaming.
