Final Day of Roar Running Delayed Due to Weather
Track action halted due to heavy rains, lightning in area at Daytona International Speedway...
The final day of testing at IMSA’s Roar before the Rolex 24 at Daytona has been delayed due to severe weather and the presence of lightning in the surrounding area.
Multiple severe weather warnings were delivered via IMSA’s notification system throughout the morning, as well as a verbal warning to seek shelter over the track public address system just before 9:30 a.m. ET.
With severe weather now largely out of the area, an IMSA representative confirmed that track activity is slated to begin with a Michelin Pilot Challenge test session that is slated to start between 10:45 and 11 a.m.
Per IMSA rules, if lightning is present within a 15-mile radius of an active racetrack, sessions must be stopped for the safety of competitors, corner workers, event participants and attending fans.
Two WeatherTech Championship sessions were originally scheduled for the day, including a 9:45 a.m. session for all classes followed by a dedicated session for any Bronze-rated drivers at 2:30 p.m.
A revised schedule for the day has yet to be released.
