Didi Hamann has issued a warning to his former club Liverpool over a possible move for AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Liverpool and Newcastle United have both been credited with an interest in Semenyo, who has shined for the Cherries in the Premier League this term.

Semenyo has scored seven goals and provided three assists across 22 top-flight games this season, with Bournemouth firmly pushing for Europe.

It was thought that Liverpool were considering using Ben Doak as a makeweight in a potential deal for Semenyo in the January window.

But it later emerged that the south coast club had no interest in a swap deal involving Doak, with Bournemouth valuing Semenyo at around £50m.

Hamann has urged Liverpool to think twice about bringing in Semenyo, because while he may ‘excite’ fans, there is ‘no guarantee’ that he will be able to replicate the same form under Arne Slot.

‘Antoine Semenyo is a talented player and has done very well this season, he’d certainly be a name to get Liverpool fans excited,’ Hamann told BestOffshoreSportsbooks.

‘Having said that, it can be hard to tell if players will fit into a team like Liverpool on the back of what they have done with other clubs in the Premier League.

‘Because of that there is no guarantee that he would be a success.’

Meanwhile, Hamann feels Liverpool could challenge for a historic quadruple this season, with the club topping the Premier League and Champions League tables and still going in both of the domestic cups.

‘They have a chance to overturn a deficit in the League Cup and are top in the Premier League and the Champions League, but we’ve seen how hard it is to win four trophies after Manchester City came up short,’ he added.

‘Things change very quickly in football and you need your key players fit in March and April when the business end of the season comes along.

‘Are Liverpool capable of winning the Quadruple? Yes they are. But anything can happen and they certainly shouldn’t be too disappointed if they only win one or two trophies.’
