It’s official, Lionsgate is moving forward with a third film in the “Den of Thieves” franchise.
The $40 million sequel “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” opened three weeks ago and pulled in $47.5 million globally from a $40 million budget, not great numbers but enough for the studio.
The original film grossed $80.5 million from a $30 million budget, but went on to major success on home video platforms. ‘Pantera’ hit PVOD on Tuesday and it seems to have gone well enough in its digital launch the studio is already moving on another.
Gerard Butler is expected to return to star and produce the third film which was already teased by writer-director Christian Gudegast throughout the second film’s press tour, saying a third film is “ready to go” whenever the studio wants.
O’Shea Jackson is also expected to star in the new movie with the second film setting a twist set up for the third.
Alan Siegel and Tucker Tooley will produce. Butler will shortly be seen in the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” remake and a sequel to disaster film “Greenland”.
